An Enchanting Experience....

We're really excited to welcome the Enchanted Cinema, Explorers Society to Hylands House for the Chelmsford Fringe Festival. They're a musical cinema project, combining the visual storytelling of cinema with the sensory experience of a music concert.
Their performances let audiences travel through the past and the present, the real and the remembered.

The video above features their previous work in Cambridge ...

'Enchanted Cinema connected with film maker Rhys Votano and musicians Explorers Society to develop a new visual experiences for a post lockdown generation. CineAura at the Stables in Hylands Estate is a combination of music and cinema – taking audiences through the documentary stories of musicians on screen as they perform live on stage. This is a live score like no other.'

Rhys Votano is a video artist overlapping motion with stillness between physical and projected spaces.

Throughout his works are questions of the self in time. What does it mean to occupy a moment as short as a second or as long as a life. Is our identity present and how much is replayed? Is time experienced or material? He demonstrates this through the manipulation of spatial-temporal properties; stretching, cutting, looping and altering perspective.

Born in Australia, Votano has exhibited around the world including within King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, a meat freezer in Iceland and at the 18th Sydney Biennale.
